Introduction
Sector Collector ("the app") is a location-based game that divides the world into a grid of 100×100 meter cells. As you move, the app records which cells you have visited. This privacy policy explains what personal data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data.
Information We Collect
When you use Sector Collector, we collect or process the following information:
- Location-derived data: While tracking is active, including supported background operation, the app uses your device's GPS location, speed, and reported accuracy to determine whether a sector can be collected and which 100×100 meter grid cell you are in. Precise GPS coordinates are processed by the app for this purpose. The server stores the resulting grid cell identifier (a pair of index numbers) rather than the precise GPS coordinates. The app displays the platform-required background location indicator or notification while tracking continues.
- Account information: When you sign in using a supported account provider, we receive the provider's account identifier and the profile information it makes available, which may include your display name and email address.
- Nickname: You choose a nickname for use in the app. Your nickname, rather than your account profile name, is shown on the in-app leaderboard.
- Gameplay data: We store collected grid cell identifiers, when each cell was first visited, bonus-sector claims, streak information, score information, and statistics used to calculate and display your progress and leaderboard position.
- Client diagnostics: The app automatically reports crashes and handled or unhandled errors when diagnostics are configured. Reports may include exception details, stack traces, app and operating-system information, device-related technical information, and properties describing the operation that failed. After sign-in, an opaque internal user identifier may be associated with these reports. The app does not attach your email address, display name, or nickname to that diagnostics identifier.
- Backend diagnostics: Requests to our server generate operational telemetry such as request paths, response status, duration, failures, dependency calls, and related technical information used to operate and troubleshoot the service.
Daily activity statistics calculated by the app, such as distance traveled and sectors collected today, are stored locally on your device. Individual sector collections and the server-side gameplay information described above are sent to our servers.
How We Use Your Data
- To determine eligible sector collections and save and synchronize your progress.
- To display your ranking on the leaderboard using your chosen nickname.
- To authenticate your identity and prevent unauthorized access.
- To maintain security, diagnose crashes and errors, monitor reliability, and operate and improve the app and backend service.
- Only in rare cases, to contact you by email with important app-related information.
We do not sell your personal data or use it for advertising or commercial marketing.
Data Storage
Account and gameplay data is stored in Microsoft Azure. Diagnostic information is processed through Microsoft Application Insights. Data sent between the app and our service is encrypted in transit using HTTPS, and access to the service's data stores is restricted.
Third-Party Services
Sector Collector uses third-party services and software to provide the following functions:
- Account authentication: The app uses the sign-in service available for its supported platform. Google Sign-In and Sign in with Apple process authentication information under their respective privacy policies. We receive the account information described above and use it to create and access your Sector Collector account.
- Hosting and data storage: Microsoft Azure hosts the backend service and its database and therefore processes account and gameplay data on our behalf.
- Diagnostics: The app uses the TinyInsights client library to send the client diagnostics described above to Microsoft Application Insights. The backend service also sends operational diagnostics to Microsoft Application Insights.
These providers process data as needed to supply their services. Their handling of information is also governed by their applicable terms and privacy policies. We do not authorize these providers to use Sector Collector data for our advertising or marketing.
Data Retention
- Account and gameplay data: We retain this data while your Sector Collector account remains active. You can permanently delete it through the in-app account-deletion flow.
- On-device data: Local settings and daily activity statistics remain on your device until they are replaced, reset by the app or operating system, or removed when the app's local data is cleared or the app is uninstalled.
- Diagnostic data: Client and backend diagnostic records are retained according to the operational retention settings of Microsoft Application Insights and are removed after that retention period. Previously collected diagnostic records are not part of the in-app account-deletion operation and may remain until their retention period expires.
Your Choices and Rights
You can control your information in the following ways:
- Location: Stop active tracking in the app or change Sector Collector's location permission in your device's system settings. If location permission is denied or withdrawn, location-based tracking cannot operate, but account management and other features that do not require your location remain available.
- Sign out: Sign out from the app's flyout menu to remove the saved session from that device. Signing out does not delete your account or synchronized gameplay data.
- Delete your account: Permanently delete your account and server-side account and gameplay data from Settings in the app.
- Remove local data: Clear the app's data through your device, where supported, or uninstall the app.
- Privacy requests: Contact us to request access to or deletion of personal data we can associate with you, or to ask questions about how your data is handled.
To delete your account, open Settings, choose Delete account, enter your current nickname exactly as requested, and confirm with Delete. This removes your account profile, nickname, collected sectors, bonus claims, refresh sessions, and leaderboard history from the Sector Collector service. It does not immediately remove previously collected diagnostic records, which follow the diagnostic retention process described above.
Children's Privacy
Sector Collector is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
